Bike the Bay+Gravel

Image
Bike the Bay By Fabrece and Rolly This ride is one of two, I believe, during which you get to ride across the Coronado.  It is a ride the recreational cyclist like, because of that fact and also that the ride, other then the bridge is FLAT.  The ride supports the San Diego Biking Coalition, a group that supports biking as a means of transportation as well as recreation. The route: I thought the route was a pretty standard for San Diego Bay. It was a mostly flat ride and the ride by the numbers was 33 miles and 817ft of climbing. This is including the gravel section.  . The two note worthy sections were crossing the bridge and the gravel section. Both of which were new to me and a cool experience. There was a steep sharp turn to get on the bridge and the climb lasted about a mile. The opportunity to ride the bridge and view it provides makes the ride. The gravel portion was a nice surprise about halfway into the ride. It started off has hard compact dirt which slowly turned into

Savagewood Brewery - Scripps Ranch, CA

Image
Savagewood Brewing Co . Looking over what we have posted, I thought it was time to highlight one of our local breweries and discuss Cervesas.  Savagewood is a recent entrant is the brewery scene in the neighborhood.  They bought out O'Sullivan Brother's about 18 months ago.  We enjoyed O'Sullivan Brothers as they had a number of good malty beers and didn't simply try to appeal to the IPA mainstream here in San Diego.  Unfortunately, that may have contributed to the ultimate selling of the resources to Savagewood. Savagewood is your typical brewer who sets up shop in the commercial building where the majority of the space is taken up on the brewing equipment and the remaining space is turned into a "tasting room".  Once Savagewood took over the O'Sullivan Brother's space, they painted the walls and changed the look, seeking a younger, more hip vibe. We hadn't been to Savagewood in several months, still pining from the loss of O'Sulliv

Coffee Cycle

COFFEE CYCLE  The Kid has been doing Coffee Rides around San Diego going on two years now.  He and a good friend from the velodrome have explored many of the Arabica Beans haunts north of downtown. For a true coffee experience, meaning no sugar and cream laced grande mixture over ice, Coffee Cycle is a place to try out.  They do offer Lattes and Mochas, but their specialty is a pour over of one of the 4-6 specialty roast procured locally. Located in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego, 1632 Grand Ave, SD CA 92109, its relatively small size and limited seating work well for the grab and go tourist and beach goers of the area. Car parking is limited, but bike parking is ample, so to speak. Chris, the owner, is a coffee nut. He started the business from a bicycle cart before relocating the cart permanently into its' current location. Chris takes pride is producing a fine, tasty cup of coffee.  The beans for each pour over order have been previously weighed out and stored is a

4th of July, Old Pros Ride

Scripps Ranch Old Pros - 4th of July Ride Every 4th of July the Scripps Ranch Old Pros host a 10k race/ fun run and a bike ride. This event has become a tradition in the Roup household whether we partake in the 10K run, which The Boss has done several times, or 50 mile ride now our fancy. The start and finish for the ride are in Scripps Ranch, about a mile from the house, making it a convenient event to ride. The 50 mile ride can be very fast ride, the streets our usually pretty empty on the 4th at that time of the morning and the event draws some very fast riders from of area due its' relatively small entrance fee and free beer garden at the end.  The Boss and the Motivator had two goals this year; stay with the front group until you're dropped and finish under 2 hours and 45 minutes. On July 3rd, ride bibs were picked up, bikes were prepped, and gear was laid out, to make the 7am start easier. The event as told by Fabrece: Early start at 5:30 to make sure everything w
