About Us

We are a father/son duo who decided to start a blog to document our adventures. We enjoy riding and drinking coffee during our rides, and then having a beer or "cerveza" after our rides.

Rolly Roup (AKA "the Boss") has been riding for the better part of 15 years and has conquered several endurance races including multiple Ironman races and the Death Ride. Fabrece Roup (AKA "the Motivator") has only been riding since 2013, but enjoys riding on the velodrome and chasing gravel roads.

We are based in San Diego and enjoy all forms of riding from road to dirt and everything in between. This blog will highlight some of our favorite rides, new routes, crazy climbs, and the best coffee stops.We are hoping this blog will be fun, informative, and educational. Who knows how far our adventures will take us.

Hob Coffee - Poway, CA During the Kid's coffee adventures he came across Hob Coffee.  Located in a non-descriptive strip mall in Poway, California, Hob Coffee would seemingly be similar to the endless number of local coffee shops trying to carve out an existence while competing against Starbucks or Peet's. Hob has a seemingly simple business model, offer a great cup of coffee and locally themed specialty drinks. Started by a group of declared "Coffeeheads" who enjoy high quality coffee and want to share it with the community. They typically carry 3-4 single origin beans that can be tasted in a variety of brew methods. Atmosphere HOB coffee is in a unique location in the corner of a little strip mall. There is ample parking, some outside seating, and seating inside. This isn't a large location and with people sitting, waiting for coffee, and waiting in line to order, the space can fill up quickly. Bike the Bay+Gravel

Bike the Bay By Fabrece and Rolly This ride is one of two, I believe, during which you get to ride across the Coronado.  It is a ride the recreational cyclist like, because of that fact and also that the ride, other then the bridge is FLAT.  The ride supports the San Diego Biking Coalition, a group that supports biking as a means of transportation as well as recreation. The route: I thought the route was a pretty standard for San Diego Bay. It was a mostly flat ride and the ride by the numbers was 33 miles and 817ft of climbing. This is including the gravel section.  . The two note worthy sections were crossing the bridge and the gravel section. Both of which were new to me and a cool experience. There was a steep sharp turn to get on the bridge and the climb lasted about a mile. Nate Harrison Road

Hate Harrison Grade Palomar Mountain is one of the infamous climbs in Southern California.  The Tour of California has even graced its slopes in the past. Usually you climb it from the South Grade and deal with the speeding "crotch rockets" as they race through the switchbacks, or you take the gentler slope of the East Grade. Today we are going to tackle Nate Harrison Rd. The road is named after one of San Diego County's legendary pioneers - a freed African-American who lived up on the southwest side of Palomar Mountain. I first learned about this grade/road from a couple of friends as we were preparing to hike the Grand Canyon. The steady 10 plus mile incline was the perfect training ground for preparing for our rim-to-rim experience. The Motivator learned about it from a friend who rode it on his mountain bike.
